Who is this WordPress course for?

Have you ever wanted to build a professional looking website, but didn’t know where to start?  Now you can.  Wordpress for Beginners is a complete course for anyone, no matter what your technical ability.  This course assumes no prior knowledge!

At the start of the course, I’ll walk you through setting up WordPress on your own computer so that you don’t need to pay for a web host (or a domain name) while you master wordpress.  When you decide you want to put a website online, you can then watch over-my-shoulder as I buy a domain name and hosting, and install WordPress online.

Whether you decide to host your site on your own computer, or at a web host, you’ll be ready to start mastering WordPress.  We’ll start at the very beginning by logging in to have a look around to familiarize ourselves with the main areas of the Dashboard.

Once you are happy navigating around your new tools, we’ll go through the main features you will need as you create your site, including:

  1. The WYSIWYG Editor.  This is where you enter all of your website content.
  2. The Media Library, to manage your images, videos, sound files and other media you want to share on your site.
  3. WordPress Settings, and I’ll take you step by step to set those up just right.
  4. We’ll look at the differences between WordPress posts and pages, and I’ll give you a simple way of knowing which one to use on any occasion.
  5. We’ll look at post excerpts, categories and tags, and how to use them on a well-structured site to maximize visitor experience and search engine ranking benefits.
  6. You’ll see the two main ways you can set your homepage up.
  7. We’ll create a contact form on the site so visitors can get in touch.
  8. We’ll setup an About us page, and I’ll explain why this page is important and what information to include on it.
  9. We’ll cover the legal pages you need.
  10. We’ll discuss the navigation system on your site, and how you can set up customized navigation in the header, sidebar or footer of your site.  We’ll also talk about internal site linking.
  11. We’ll cover WordPress security, and set up a system that will keep the site safe from hackers.
  12. We’ll check out some great free plugins.
  13. Finally, I’ll give you a 20 step plan for creating your site.

By the end of this course, you will have a website that you are truly proud of.

Engineering Graduate and IT professional for over 40 years.

First time exposure to website development, Heymarketplace and WordPress.

Found the presentation by Andy Williams compelling and am now going back to University for a 21 hour crash course before rebuilding our company website using WordPress.

Disappointed that the original HealthyGutBuddies.com has been secured and completely reworked by the USA dentists. I trust Andy made a dollar. A comment about this change together with adding a link to a new equivalent website designed by Andy would be a great help. Such a link sent to my email would be greatly appreciated and the ability to email Andy would be a great help.

Andy also needs to get a higher Google rating than his deceased eponymous celebrity, or might change his name so we can find him.

Do follow. Andy’s calm manner and voice inspired me to believe that WP is not too difficult for me, a WP beginner. His pace, tone, and clarity said something like ‘come this way, follow me, I will show you how.’ And I followed. Do follow Andy–he’s a good guide.

Its worked out very well. I created a hosting site and have been following along and building my site. I had no idea of word press’s existence let alone its functions. I started on the 23rd of Jan, and have just finished my website, even after taking a week off when I was travelling in Asia, with no time for working on this. In fact today, with the help of Stable host support, I’ve changed the site from the main domain to an add-on domain, which was pointing to my old website at a different host. But I have to say that was hairy and I definitely needed help!! In tems of what could be improved, more instruction on how to back up the website would be helpful. Thanks again.

I just started, I went thru several video introductions. This is my first one, so far I like it. I must rate it 5 star.

It was an amazing experience to learn wordpress in a very simple and concise way for a beginner like me who has zero knowledge before starting of the course and now I am quite confident that with more practice I will build my own website!!!

I recommend this course for people who want to learn wordpress from scratch level.

The preparations, content and the topics are very valuable. Not in depth bu good for the beginners. However, the course subjects are progressively scattered. I think the content of the course is old because I’m trying to apply the subject I’m seeing now then I’m encountering very different problems. So I couldn’t even install the wordpress software. It gives very different problems and warnings. Neither the way of installation nor the remedies do not match what is provided here.

Very good introduction to WordPress, lots of useful tips to use alongside setting up your own site. Also continued updates when there are changes to WordPress, plus a whole load of other very useful resources. Great instructor.

I thought this course was fantastic. I was an absolute beginner to WordPress. I attempted to use the site once before and failed miserably. Thank you so much for the clear concise training. I greatly appreciate it. This course is highly recommended by me for an in depth look at using WordPress as a beginner.

I went from absolutely zero experience to gaining a good grasp of how wordpress works and how to maintain a website. I wouldn’t call myself super knowledgeable after the course since it seems like wordpress is mostly a trial and error with plugins once you get the site up and running and each plugin changes a lot of settings. However, he goes into great detail on every setting in wordpress and covers a lot of the most important plugins to get a site secure and protected.

This course is fantastic! There’s so much great information presented in a very understandable format by someone who obviously knows what he’s teaching.
